Michael S. Teitelbaum
Senior AdvisorMichael S. Teitelbaum is a Senior Advisor to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, where he advises the Foundation on the management of its Professional Science Master's program. He has held this position since Jan 1, 2011.
From 1983 to 2010, Dr. Teitelbaum served as a Program Director for the Foundation and was responsible for overseeing a number of grantmaking programs, including the Sloan Research Fellowships, the Professional Science Master's program, the Science and Engineering Work Force program, the Federal Statistics program, the Sloan Public Service Awards, and the Sloan Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics.
Dr. Teitelbaum is a demographer educated at Reed College and at Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Over the course of his career, Dr. Teitelbaum has served in numerous high-profile academic and public policy positions, including:
- Faculty member at Oxford University and Princeton University, and Distinguished Scholar at Yale University;
- Staff Director of the Select Committee on Population, U.S. House of Representatives;
- Professional staff member of the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace;
- One of 12 Commissioners of the U.S. Commission for the Study of International Migration and Cooperative Economic Development (1988-90);
- First Vice President of the Population Association of America, the scientific society of demographers;
- Vice Chair and Acting Chair of the nine member U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform (1990-1997).
Dr. Teitelbaum is a regular speaker on the subjects of demographic change and immigration, a frequent invited witness before Committees of the United States Congress, and publishes extensively in scientific and popular journals and in national op-ed pages. His books include:

- A Question of Numbers: High Migration, Low Fertility, and the Politics of National Identity (Hill and Wang, 1998, co-author)

- The Fear of Population Decline (Academic Books ,1985, co-author);

- The British Fertility Decline: Demographic Transition in the Crucible of the Industrial Revolution (Princeton University Press, 1984).
Dr. Teitelbaum joined the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in 1983 and served as Vice President from 2006-2008.
