Jacques Perrin's Oceans Premieres
14th January 2010

French producer and director Jacques Perrin’s groundbreaking film about life beneath the sea, OCEANS, had its world premiere on January 27th in Paris, France. Made in cooperation with researchers at the Census of Marine Life and Sloan’s program in Public Understanding of Science and Technology, OCEANS has opened in four countries and has through March 14, 2010 earned over 50 million dollars at the box office, making it already one of the highest-grossing documentaries in history
Headed by renowned French film producer and actor Jacques Perrin, Galatée Film Productions' OCEANS is a breathtaking voyage into the undersea world. The Galatée team has received the support of the Sloan Foundation and has been working closely with Census of Marine Life scientists to ensure the scientific accuracy of the film. A PDF of a full-color brochure, prepared by François Sarano of Galatée and Myriam Sibuet of the Census of Marine Life, features the marine species highlighted in OCEANS and provides links to pages in the Encyclopedia of Life with more information about each of the individual species.
(A separate version of the film with the same title, to be distributed in the U.S. and Canada by DisneyNature, premieres April 22nd. The Foundation is not associated with this version.)
