Gail M. Pesyna, Program Director
Industry Studies Book Promotion Grants The Sloan Foundation and the Industry Studies Committee are pleased to offer a program of grants to enhance promotional support for books that exemplify scholarly research in industry studies. Funding is available to augment the normal promotional efforts expected from the book's publisher. These grants may be used to support a variety of communications and outreach activities designed to raise awareness of the book and its message. Books published within the last year and/or books soon to be published are eligible. Applications are accepted year-round. The process for applying is flexible and streamlined. Interested affiliates may submit a short (2-3 page) proposal to Gail Pesyna (address below) that includes a description of the book, the name of the publisher and expected publication date, the level of promotional activity that the publisher will provide; and what specific, additional promotional activities are proposed, along with a budget for each activity. The proposal must also include an excerpt(s) from the book indicating the major findings and conclusions as a separate attachment (5-10 pages). The excerpt should clearly demonstrate why this is an outstanding example of industry studies research. It should also show that sound and substantive conclusions have been drawn from observations and direct contact with people in industry. This use of fieldwork, and its significance in reaching the book's conclusions, must be clearly apparent. It is not necessary to send a copy of the book itself or the page proofs at the time of proposal submission. The proposals are reviewed by a small group of industry studies researchers, chaired by Ken Kraemer of the Industry Studies Committee. If additional information (such as the page proofs from a yet-to-be published book) is required, someone will contact you. Decisions will follow quickly. If you have any questions or want to receive a copy of Guidelines for Authors, please contact Gail Pesyna (pesyna@sloan.org) or Ken Kraemer (kkraemer@uci.edu).
